The most popular Airbnb properties in London are in the East End, E1 as well as the West End of London, W1 (Soho, Knightsbridge, Mayfair), a new survey shows.
Flats and houses in the borough of Tower Hamlets which are let through the website are occupied 94 per cent of the time they are available for rent, according to the figures.
The area is convenient for Canary Wharf and the City and has good links into the West End, but with more affordable rates than many central districts.
The average nightly rate for accommodation for four people in Tower Hamlets — which includes Spitalfields, Bethnal Green and the Isle of Dogs — is £151, compared with £172 for London as a whole and £226 for Westminster, according to the website.
Properties advertised as available next month include a £158-a-night Brick Lane loft and a two-bedroom flat near Crossharbour DLR station, with stunning views of Canary Wharf, for £121.
The second most popular borough is Hackney, with Kensington and Chelsea next. Short-term let managers My Property Host compiled the list. Its managing director Elena Lopez said: “The popularity of Tower Hamlets and Hackney is down to good transport links, trendy reputation and competitive rates: factors prized by millennials, the people most likely to book Airbnb.
“But as Airbnb’s popularity increases among families and business travellers the map is likely to be redrawn. Larger Zone 2 homes will appeal to families and we expect City properties to do well with corporate travellers.”
